Susan Carlson, State Representative, 64th District
Dear friends,
Big news! As many of you know, every ten years after the census, legislative districts are redrawn so that the population in each district is as equal as possible. The new redistricting has resulted in the boundaries of many districts being changed and re-numbered. My home is in the new 87th district and I will be running for re-election in the 87th in 2012. This new district includes Washington University, Clayton, University City south of Delmar, Ladue east of Warson, the northern portion of Richmond Heights and a portion of Brentwood. (There is a map below.) My family and I have lived here for 25 years so I know this area very well. I truly look forward to representing it.
As for now, I still represent the 64th District in the legislative session that just began on January 3. I am very fortunate to have been assigned to some significant committees. I am on the Rules Committee which votes on all bills before they can proceed to the Floor of the House for debate. This is the only Committee that sees all the bills from the other Committees. I am also on the Judiciary Committee which considers many critical bills and am on the Transportation Funding and Public Institutions Committee. The many hours spent on these Committees, especially on Judiciary, must have been noticed as I was the only first year legislator to receive a Legislator of the Year Award from the Missouri Bar Association at their yearly meeting.
While a majority of the Legislature does not support the progressive legislation many of us do, I have been able to make some valuable contributions -- slowing down or stopping some bad things and helping make some good things happen. And I have enjoyed the work! It is interesting and there are few dull moments.
Contact me if you need information or have an interest in any particular legislation. My Legislative Assistant is Kathy Armstrong Licklider. She will be able to help you if I am not available. Thank you for visiting my campaign website.
I am honored to have won the Democratic primary on August 3rd with 53.2% of the vote. The 64th District is a unique and important part of St. Louis. As the map on the "About" page can show you, the District surrounds Forest Park and has some of the most interesting and lively neighborhoods in the entire metropolitan area.
Rachel Storch, our current State Representative, is not running for another term. She has endorsed me and says “Susan’s experience, knowledge and commitment make her the best candidate to advocate for the things we care about and that I fought for in Jefferson City.”
I will need campaign volunteers and encourage you to sign up to be involved or contribute financially to the campaign. Our campaign office is located at 6325 Clayton Avenue in Dogtown. It is ½ block east of Clayton and Tamm. Please stop by and visit us. And if you live in the district, I hope to see you soon at your front door.
